In its inaugural year, the Academy’s School of Audit is offering the following four courses designed for progressive levels of experience. Rely on your sales representative to help you review the course selections and build an effective training plan for your company based on your training objectives, the roles of your staff, and the potential number of participants.

Open enrollment classes located in regionally-convenient cities will begin in October 2009. You can view the course schedule and detailed description of each course below.

Firms with several associates eligible for a given program might want to consider our on-site format; it may be a more cost effective solution.

Sessions begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 5:00 PM in local time zone. During each training day, there is a 15 minute break in the morning, a one hour lunch break and a 15 minute break in the afternoon.

Audit Staff - Level I (4 day program)

Description

Designed for new hires fresh out of college to experienced staff, this program will prepare your auditors in the following areas common to first year staff:
- Professional expectations for the public accounting industry and for an entry-level staff.
- Understanding the engagement process; from the necessity of planning, best practices of field work, and efficiently wrapping up an engagement.
- Industry terminology and workpaper preparation and documentation skills.
- Case studies revolving around low-risk audit areas, including, but not limited to: Cash, Fixed Assets and Accounts Payables.
- Discussions on audit methodology and how the new risk assessments requirements (includes CCH's Knowledge-Based Audit approach).
- Industry leading new user training and tips for ProSystem fx Engagement, the basics of Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Excel (with all accounting-related examples), an introduction to ProSystem fx ActiveData (data extraction) and ProSystem fx Knowledge Coach (dynamic, fully-integrated audit content program generation).

Audit Staff - Level II (3 day program)

Description

Now that your staff have successfully launched their careers in public accounting, they should be able to effectively complete low-risk sections on their own and understand how everything fits together in the audit and within the firm. This program moves them into next phase of their career by auditing more complex areas of a company and understanding more difficult scenarios such as consolidations and interim reporting.
Additional topics include:
- Expectations of a developing staff including taking initiative and asking the questions.
- Case studies revolving around increased risk audit areas, including, but not limited to: Accounts Receivable, Inventory, Accrued Liabilities, and Debt.
- Refining your skills as an auditor by utilizing analytics such as variance report and ratios.
- Complex auditing scenarios such as cash-to-accrual, interim reporting and consolidations.
- Introduction to utilizing a data extraction tool such as ProSystem fx ActiveData, to increase your audit efficiency and streamline your sampling and testing procedures.
- Advanced ProSystem fx Engagement functionality training including advanced linking, ratios and classifications, consolidation and interim reporting.

Audit Staff - Level III (3 day program)

Description

- Keys to success for an engagement field leader, on-the-job trainer, mentor, task manager, and efficient and effective auditor.
- How to plan an audit, including, assessing risk and how to obtain and document your understanding of the client’s business and internal controls. Also learn how to design tests of controls and tailor programs and checklists utilizing the Knowledge-Based Audit approach.
- Tips on efficient researching utilizing CCH’s Accounting Research Manager and properly documenting conclusions.

Knowledge-Based Audit Methodology (2 day program)

Description

With the constant change facing the audit industry, your staff are only as good as their leaders in auditing efficiently and effectively. The additions of the risk assessment standards have placed greater importance in understanding the business, its controls, and in auditing effectively. The old days of full substantive audits and referring to prior year’s workpapers are in the past. This program dives into the risk assessment standards and how your firm can change and adapt to meet these requirements utilizing the Knowledge-Based Audit (“KBA”) approach. This session is beneficial for those using the KBA documents via CCH’s Accounting Research Manager, ProSystem fx Knowledge Tools and Knowledge Coach. Areas covered include:
- In-depth understanding of the impact the risk assessment standards have on how we audit.
- Components of the KBA, including the Communication Hub and how the various programs and checklist flow in the methodology.
- Sampling and data extraction techniques, when to use them, and how they tie into the KBA programs.
- Understanding the entity and its environment, including assessing risk and materiality utilizing the KBA.
- Considerations for audits of small businesses.
- Testing the operating effectiveness of internal controls.
- Tips for substantive testing from CCH’s Audit Procedures.
- Working with ProSystem fx Knowledge Tools and Knowledge Coach.
