With House and Senate conferees having difficulty trying to resolve differences between the House and Senate versions of highway funding reauthorization legislation, as well as trying to meet White House demands for the cost of the legislation, Congress passed and the President signed, on June 30, 2004, the Surface Transportation Extension Act of 2004, Part III, extending the current funding for an additional 30 days to July 30, 2004.
