Using the navigation bar

Here are descriptions of links and buttons that are available on the navigation bar for your Tax Research NetWork product.

Preferences
Globally sets your search, display, and news (if available) preferences.

Help
Provides steps and useful information on how to use this product.

Log Out
Ends your research session.

Search box
Here is where you type your search terms. By default your search results will be displayed "by Document" with documents containing all your search terms as well as related terms from CCH's legal thesaurus. Your results will be automatically ranked by relevancy with the best matches listed first when your search results are displayed "by Document." See also: Displaying your search results by Table of Contents

You can also type in a complete citation and obtain the actual cited document.

Clear Search Terms
Click the circled X to clear your search terms from the word search box.

Search

Executes a search based on entries you've made in the word search box.

Find by Citation
Accesses the Citation Search Template. You can use the Citation Search Template when you are looking for a particular document and know its number or citation. Just enter the citation onto the template and click Search.

Check Citator
Lets you track the history of cases and rulings through the legal process.

Search Tools
Accesses the Search Tools template. Search Tools allows you to customize the elements you want to add to your search so that the results you receive are more precise. For example, you can limit the search to certain types of documents, specify whether you want your results to be ranked by relevance, specify whether results should include terms from the legal thesaurus, and much more.

NoteOptions set on your Search Tools template remain in effect during your current research session only. If you click the Clear Selections link, those options will be cleared immediately.

Main Menu
Returns you to the tabs view where you made your most recent selections.

Clear Selections
Deselects all the items you have selected (including settings on the Search Tools template) and returns you to the top menu level of the library. This is helpful when you want to begin a new search and want to clear all the items you selected or targeted on the tabs. Specifically, the Clear Selections link clears the following:

NoteThe Clear Selections link does not clear search options you have set in your Preferences.

Research History
Lets you view an audit trail of all the steps you have taken. Research History also allows you to go back to previously viewed documents just by clicking on the underlined title.

Research Folders
Lets you see your own customized list of important documents you found in your research.
