Using the Two-Step Search

The Two-Step Search allows you to just type your search terms and execute your search—you don’t have to remember any special search syntax.

NoteIn order to execute a search, you must select an item or items before you search.

To do a Two-Step Search:

Setting search preferences

You can set certain search options so they apply every time you search. See: Setting your search preferences.

Understanding your Two-Step Search results

When you display your search results "by Document," Two-Step Search, by default, will automatically rank your results by relevancy with the best matches listed first. Documents returned include those from typical internet research products and U.S. Master Tax Guide Plus containing all of the search terms you typed as well as related terms from CCH's legal thesaurus. Also, along with the titles of the documents your search retrieved, your Search Results List will contain the words surrounding the first occurrence of your search term or terms. You can also display your search results "by Table of Contents." See Displaying your search results by table of contents.

If you would like to have more search options so that you can be more precise about the results you receive, use Search Tools. See: Adding power to your Search: Search Tools.

NoteIf you change Search Tools options or Search Preference settings, these changes will apply to the Two-Step Search as well.
