Using a Secure Connection to CCH

If you are concerned about the security of your connection to CCH, you have the option of conducting research through an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).

An SSL is a security protocol that’s become the industry standard for protecting communication over the Internet. An SSL encrypts all the information sent between your browser and the Web server you’re connecting to.

To use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to connect to CCH's web server:

TipYou can tell you’re connected to CCH via an SSL, because a small padlock appears in the lower right corner of your browser’s status bar.

To restore your previous settings:

NoteSome browser configurations will not work correctly with SSL. For example, if you are using a proxy server, your proxy server may not be configured to support SSL transactions.

If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.x and you enable SSL, your browser may misinterpret some Javascript commands. If so, you will receive the following pop-up message when you first click on a button or link: "This page contains both secure and non-secure items." When you see this message, click Yes. Despite the wording of the message, your session is still completely secure.
