If you are concerned about the security of your connection to CCH, you have the option of conducting research through an SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).
An SSL is a security protocol thats become the industry standard for protecting communication over the Internet. An SSL encrypts all the information sent between your browser and the Web server youre connecting to.
At the CCH Internet Research NetWork login screen, click the Secure connection link. A new login screen appears.
Click the checkbox for Encrypt data sent to CCH.
Type your User ID and Password and click Enter.
After the system authenticates your login information, the main CCH Internet Research NetWork screen appears. You are now connected to CCHs Web server via an SSL.
You
can tell youre connected to CCH via an SSL, because a small padlock appears
in the lower right corner of your browsers status bar.
At the CCH Internet Research NetWork login screen, click the Secure connection link. A new login screen appears.
Deselect the checkbox for Encrypt data sent to CCH.
Type your User ID and Password and click Enter.
After the system authenticates your login information, the main CCH Internet Research NetWork screen appears. You are no longer connected to CCHs Web server via an SSL.
Some browser configurations
will not work correctly with SSL. For example, if you are using a proxy
server, your proxy server may not be configured to support SSL transactions.
If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.x and you enable SSL, your browser may misinterpret some Javascript commands. If so, you will receive the following pop-up message when you first click on a button or link: "This page contains both secure and non-secure items." When you see this message, click Yes. Despite the wording of the message, your session is still completely secure.
