Learn How to Effectively Detect and Deal with Fraud
Fraudulent financial reporting will probably continue to be a problem as long as financial statements are being used as a basis for investing and financing decisions. Especially during uncertain economic times, one can never be certain that a business downturn is not being hidden by an enthusiastic business owner by reporting sales that he or she “knows” will materialize in the near future or by postponing the recognition of expenses.
In addition, many entities are victims to fraud, whether in the form of employee theft or dealing with an unscrupulous customer or supplier. Although these are often petty, they can grow to substantial amounts and, when they do, the accountant is often held responsible for prevention and detection.
This live two-hour seminar will provide accountants with an overview of their responsibilities for fraud. Presented by noted fraud expert Mark Dauberman, this session is ideal for accountants in public practice who are providing financial statement services for their clients, those in industry who have responsibility for internal controls, and those in business who do not wish to be victims of fraud themselves.
Program Topics
Among the areas Mr. Dauberman will cover are:
Different types of fraud schemes and the characteristics of those who perpetrate them
Developing internal controls designed to prevent or minimize fraud
Approaches for detection of fraud affecting financial reporting
Learning Objectives
Attendees will learn about a range of issues and topics, including:
Gain practical awareness of the nature and characteristics of fraud
Understand how to use managements’ financial statement assertions as a basis for developing internal controls
Demonstrate how to apply the concepts underlying the new risk assessment standards to minimize the likelihood of being associated with financial statements that are materially misstated due to fraud.
