What is IntelliConnect?
IntelliConnect is the revolutionary research platform that will streamline your workflow, improve accuracy and efficiency and give you unprecedented access to CCH’s and Kleinrock's world-class content. IntelliConnect is a functional and technological evolution to the current Kleinrock web platform.
How is it different from Kleinrock’s web platform?
Picking up where Kleinrock left off, IntelliConnect is a robust system with groundbreaking research capabilities and advanced customization tools. Below are a few of the key features/functionality found on IntelliConnect.
What are the key features on IntelliConnect?
- Intuitive and innovative research capabilities: IntelliConnect is easy to learn and use with its simple, modern interface. Everything is accessible from one screen.
- Easy searching and browsing: Use either or both Search or Browse to find desired information or documents. To begin a search, simply type in your search term — there's no need to pre-select what publications to search. IntelliConnect rapidly searches all the content in your subscription so you don't miss important documents.
- Filtering for fine-tuned results: Select different ways to sort results using our "filters." Quickly narrow down results list to locate exactly what you're looking for, such as Explanations or primary source material.
- Tri-screen display for easier navigation: Easily view your results list and documents at the same time.
- Multiple searches saved in tab format: Never lose your place while you work! You can have five research sessions open at the same time.
- Search within a search for refined results: Easily refine results by conducting a search within a set of search results.
- Research folders: you can save your research documents into folders, based on date, client or any other organization of your choosing.
- Saved searches: IntelliConnect allows you to save a search for those terms or practice areas you research on a regular basis.
- History: A list of all your searches is automatically saved for 60 days.
Are there any features that were available on the Kleinrock web platform that are not available
on IntelliConnect?

When do I transition from Kleinrock to IntelliConnect?
Kleinrock research-only users will switch to IntelliConnect in August 2009. Subscribers that purchase Kleinrock research in conjunction with ATX or TaxWise software will migrate to IntelliConnect in September 2009. You will receive messages on the Kleinrock log-in screen or on the My ATX Support site notifying you about what you need to do to register for IntelliConnect and when you need to complete these simple steps.
Why do I need to register for IntelliConnect?
You need to register for IntelliConnect in order to create your User ID and password for the new system. Your user ID will be your email address and you choose your password.
Will I use the same login process?
Yes. Kleinrock research-only users will use their email address and password of their choice for IntelliConnect.
ATX and TaxWise users will access IntelliConnect from their respective ATX or TaxWise support sites. Once you’ve clicked on the IntelliConnect link from the ATX or TaxWise support site, you will be asked to provide a login ID (your email address) and a password of your choosing.
Can my login name and password be saved on IntelliConnect, similar to Kleinrock’s login?
Yes, similar to the “save my login information” feature on Kleinrock, IntelliConnect has a “remember me” feature on its login screen.
Can I use IntelliConnect at the same time as I use Kleinrock?
Kleinrock research-only users will have access to both the Kleinrock web platform and IntelliConnect during August 2009. Beginning in September 2009, Kleinrock research-only users will access their content exclusively on IntelliConnect.
ATX and TaxWise users will move to IntelliConnect in mid-September 2009.
Is the Kleinrock name being discontinued?
CCH is integrating Kleinrock content onto CCH’s new groundbreaking platform. Kleinrock customers will receive the best of Kleinrock and CCH--similar bundles of content at a value price, all on CCH’s new, revolutionary platform. The Kleinrock name will continue to be used on a number of books for the small tax firm market.
What if I have more than one Kleinrock ID for different content? How does that work on IntelliConnect?
You will only have one ID (your email address) with IntelliConnect. You will be able to search and view all of the content that you subscribe to in one convenient place.
Will CCH continue to honor the free multi-user license for up to three people as it does now for TKO and
Federal TaxExpert?
Yes, multi-user license will be honored as in the past.
Do I have to register at the same time as everyone else in my organization?
You and your co-workers may register at any time during the migration period.
What happens if I don't register?
If you don't register during the migration period, you will be automatically redirected to IntelliConnect when the registration period is over. Registration on IntelliConnect requires only a few simple steps.

Is all the content that's available on Kleinrock currently on IntelliConnect?
As part of the migration to IntelliConnect, some of your research content will change. A letter outlining the specific content changes was sent to you in early June. Where content is not carrying over to the new platform, we will provide you with equal or better content.
With the release of IntelliConnect, we are also introducing new explanatory material – Practical Tax Expert™, built for the IntelliConnect world. Practical Tax Expert, which was heavily derived from Federal TaxExpert, offers a practical, real-world focus on income tax issues facing individuals and small businesses. You will continue to receive access to primary source material as part of Practical Tax Expert.
How does Practical Tax Expert compare to Federal TaxExpert?
Federal TaxExpert is being replaced by Practical Tax Expert on IntelliConnect, similar to the replacement of the Federal Tax Bulletin with the Practical Tax Bulletin. Practical Tax Expert was designed specifically for the small firms tax practitioner, and it focuses on subjects that matter most to you—individual and small business taxation. Practical Tax Expert was written by, and is maintained by, the same editorial staff that wrote and maintained Federal TaxExpert.
Practical Tax Expert includes:
- New Special Taxpayers topic that makes it easier to answer your clients’ questions, helps you identify issues, and directs you to in-depth answers in the rest of the analysis.
- Improved organization, with new topics and expanded coverage of the important areas of self-employment tax and the alternative minimum tax.
- Expanded coverage of tax credits, including separate chapters on the component credits of the business tax credit, and improved coverage of all the most important business credits.
- The Tax Rates and Tables topic includes valuable new features: withholding tables, a tax calendar, tax terms, disaster areas, and valuation tables.
- More links to source materials, including cases, older letter rulings and all IRS news releases.
How do I know what content is available in my IntelliConnect subscription?
All of the content available in your subscription is listed within Browse. Simply click on the “Browse” link in the “Quick Bar” on IntelliConnect and then click through the Browse tree using the “+” and “-” icons.
Will I still have access to daily news on IntelliConnect?
Yes, if your subscription includes daily news, it will continue to be provided on IntelliConnect. In fact, you will have access to CCH’s Tax Tracker News, which you can customize to receive those news stories and developments related to your particular practice areas.
Will I get the same printed handbooks with my subscription that I’ve received in previous years?
Yes, you will continue to receive the same or similar printed handbooks as you have in the past with your subscription. Note, however, that All States Quick Answers is being discontinued. 1040 Express Answers covers most of this state information.
Will I continue to receive the Practical Tax Bulletin in email format?
Yes, you can still receive the Practical Tax Bulletin newsletter via email. Beginning this fall, however, you will have to sign up for this newsletter as a “Tax Tracker” in IntelliConnect to keep receiving the email bulletin. Instructions on how to do this will be included in future PTB newsletter emails.
My subscription currently includes CPE. Will I still receive it?
Yes, CPE will continue to be provided if your current subscription includes it. CPE will be provided on the CCH Learning Center website rather than on the Kleinrock web platform or on IntelliConnect.
The courses on the CCH Learning Center will be similar to those provided on Kleinrock. Courses in progress will not transfer from Kleinrock to the CCH Learning Center. Thus, you should complete any CPE courses currently in progress on Kleinrock by August 31, 2009.
Should I print off CPE certificates of completion before I switch to IntelliConnect and the CCH Learning Center?
Yes, please remember to print out your certificates showing completion of a CPE course on the Kleinrock platform before you transition to IntelliConnect and the CCH Learning Center.
Will TaxTalk still be part of my subscription?
Yes, TaxTalk will still be part of your subscription. It is available at http://list.kleinrock.com/read/login/?list=taxtalk
My subscription includes access to several CCH Tax Prep Partner publications. What is CCH Tax Prep Partner?
CCH Tax Prep Partner Series includes explanatory content, unique practice materials and tools that provide step-by-step analysis during the preparation of federal tax returns. These materials are designed to follow your workflow so that you save time and increase your productivity. The explanatory content is similar to former Kleinrock compliance titles, and the new content contains more tools and practice materials.
What happened to Kleinrock’s Employment TaxExpert?
If your subscription included access to Kleinrock’s Employment TaxExpert, you will still receive coverage on employment taxes on IntelliConnect. Two of the topics in Practical Tax Expert address employment taxes, and the Practical Tax Bulletin covers employment tax new developments.
What happened to Kleinrock’s Compliance Guide?
As part of the migration to IntelliConnect, CCH-Kleinrock has eliminated redundant content in your bundle to streamline and aid you in your research. The Express Answers series generally covers the same material as Kleinrock’s Compliance Guide and the Express Answers titles will continue to be provided as part of your subscription.
My subscription includes access to the CCH Client Letter Toolkit. What is this?
This added feature will provide you with an increased number of client letters that you can use to help generate business. The toolkit allows you to search by topic, type of client or type of letter.

What should I do if I need help during this transition?
Visit the IntelliConnect Help Center at CCHGroup.com/Kleinrock-IntelliConnect or contact CCH customer service at 1-800-449-6451. You can also visit the CCH customer support web site at Support.CCH.com.

I just moved from Kleinrock to IntelliConnect and I don't know where to start, what should I do?

Interactive Help - Provides you with on-the-spot assistance while using IntelliConnect. Whenever you see the "balloon" icon in IntelliConnect, simply click it for additional information. The information displayed will guide you through a particular feature or provide you with useful tips should you need additional help.
IntelliConnect also provides you with Interactive Help for selected features when you use them for the very first time. These interactive messages automatically pop up. You can adjust settings for IntelliConnect Help in Preferences.

Will I continue to receive CDs after the migration to IntelliConnect?
If your subscription currently includes access to research content on both CD and the Internet, you will continue to receive a CD with tax research content in addition to IntelliConnect.
Does IntelliConnect have any impact on Kleinrock’s Federal TaxExpert CD?
Yes. Both the Kleinrock web platform and the Kleinrock CD platform are being retired and replaced with CCH platforms. You will still have access to authoritative and dependable research content on the same media (Internet, CD) as you had in the past.
What is the name of the new CCH CD that is replacing the Kleinrock CD?
Practical Tax Expert. The new CD will contain the Practical Tax Expert explanations along with primary source material. The new Practical Tax Expert CD will function very similar to Kleinrock’s Federal TaxExpert CD, although the interface will look slightly different.
Will the Practical Tax Expert CD include the same information as the Federal TaxExpert CD?
Similar information will be provided on the new CD (explanations, Code, Regs, other primary source material), but in some cases we need to prune the primary source material on the CD due to space constraints of the CD media (e.g., only current year letter rulings are provided on the CD).
Will the new CD have the same search engine?
The new Practical Tax Expert CD uses a different search engine than the one used on the Federal Tax Expert CD. You will still be able to target searches to a particular library or content set on the new CD.
When will I receive the first CD on the new platform?
The last Federal TaxExpert CD will mail in early September 2009. The Practical Tax Expert CD will be sent to subscribers beginning in October 2009 and thereafter. |
