Welcome to the August 2006 issue of Focus on Learning, the monthly newsletter for the CCH Learning Center, in which we provide insights on how to use the Learning Center to your full advantage.  In each issue, we highlight a course or series of courses on a timely topic, as well as advise you of new courses released in the CCH Learning Center.  We also inform you of new features, provide helpful tips on existing features, and help you use the CCH Learning Center to meet your professional development and CPE needs.

What's New
CCH will soon add a new library to it growing line of Specialty Libraries.  The CCH Learning Center Specialty Libraries are practice area focused and cover a broad range of levels in the key topics of accounting and auditing, sales and use taxation, state taxation, and tax return preparation.  The CCH Specialty Library: Wealth Management will be available in September.

This new library offers authoritative, comprehensive content to help professionals offer practical wealth management planning advice to their clients.  Written by top experts in the field, these courses will offer timely coverage, in-depth analysis, and helpful practice aids, giving you the guidance you need to keep a step ahead of important issues impacting wealth management issues.  The courses also include links to sources of additional information within CCH^® Tax Research Network™ and Accounting Research Manager^®.  Look for this new library in September.

New Specialty Library
Accounting and Audit Courses — In addition to the Accounting and Audit titles listed above, several new courses have been released exclusively to CCH’s Accounting and Audit Specialty Library.  This new Library covers a broad range of topics, including fraud, recently issued standards, and specialized areas, such as governmental auditing and not-for-profit organization audits.  The CCH Specialty Library: Accounting and Audit serves as a valuable research tool and helps practitioners meet their A&A CPE requirements.  New courses released exclusively to this library include: 

• Accounting for Intangibles (Third Edition)

• Fraud in the Financial Statement Audit 

Course Spotlight
Auditing Issues: Independence and Ethics - The AICPA’s 2005-06 Alert — In 2005 the AICPA released its Independence and Ethics Alert—2005/06. The goal of the Alert was to inform readers of recent developments and help them understand the requirements of the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, as well as the rules of other rule-making bodies. This new and timely course provides a clear, concise review of the Alert's key provisions, and updates on you significant developments since its release.  

Auditing Issues: Independence and Ethics - The AICPA’s 2005-06 Alert  summarizes key provisions of the Alert, and provides updates on significant developments since its release.  The course helps you understand the requirements of the AICPA Code of Professional Conduct, and presents a digest of the current AICPA rules.  In addition, the course reviews the independence and ethics rules of other authoritative bodies including the SEC, PCAOB and GAO.
