Welcome to the January issue of Focus on Learning, the monthly newsletter for the CCH Learning Center that provides insights on how to use the Learning Center to your full advantage and updates on new courses and features available to you. " In each issue we highlight a course (or series of courses) on a timely topic, and let you know about new courses released in the Learning Center. We also inform you of new useful features, provide helpful tips on existing features, and help you use the CCH Learning Center to meet your professional development and CPE needs.

Attention Certified Financial Planners

Beginning in 2006, CCH must electronically report CFP® licensees completing courses to the CFP Board. If you are a certified financial planner, and wish to earn Credit for courses you have completed through the Learning Center, please provide your CFP registrant ID to CCH. You may enter this information into your Learning Center profile by logging on and going to My Account. Enter your ID number in the CFP Registrant ID field and click Continue. You may also go to My Courses and click on Do you have a CFP Registrant ID to enter this information. CCH will begin reporting all courses you complete through the Learning Center to the CFP Board within 30 days of receiving this information.

What’s New

Full range of CPE options. The Learning Center was recently redesigned to provide easy access to all CCH CPE options. In addition to our web-based CPE courses, we now offer online grading for CCH’s text-based courses, and access to schedules for our popular audio seminars. Of course, you can still access courses included in your current CCH Learning Center subscription, now called the CCH Learning Center Core Library, through the site. To access your current subscription, simply log in and click on the Course Catalog tab.

Learning Center Specialty Libraries! Two new libraries focusing on specialized practice areas are now available through the CCH Learning Center. The new Accounting and Audit Library covers a broad range of topics; including fraud, recently issued standards and specialized areas such as governmental auditing and not-for-profit organization audits. Course levels range from basic to advanced and include links to sources of additional information within CCH's Accounting Research Manager®. The new Sales and Use Taxation Library provides guidance on one of the most dynamic areas of tax law and practice. The courses offer practical, clearly explained introductions to core sales and use taxation issues to help you effectively deal with this often complex and confusing area of state taxation. All courses include links to CCH® Tax Research Network™.

Additional Learning Center libraries focusing on specialized topics will be released for separate sale over the next year. Libraries scheduled for release will cover a broad range of topics, including tax return preparation, wealth management and state taxation.

New Learning Center Core Library Courses

CCH is committed to keeping you up-to-date and knowledgeable on the latest issues that impact your firm or corporation. Many new or revised courses have been released to the CCH Learning Center Core Library over the past two months to prepare you for the upcoming tax return preparation season.

Course Spotlight

1120S Preparation and Planning series: This series of courses takes you step-by-step through preparation of S Corporation income tax returns for 2005. The courses provide a comprehensive review of the basic principles for the taxation of S corporations, and highlight recent tax changes that impact on 2005 tax returns. New developments and planning strategies are noted throughout the courses.

This series of courses is divided into four modules. Each course begins with an alert of new changes for the year and then reviews the fundamentals pertaining to the topic in question. Blank forms and schedules for particular items are included as well as practice pointers, pitfalls and recent developments. Courses in the series are:
