AUGUST 2005

Dear CCH Learning Center Subscriber,

Welcome to the August issue of Focus on Learning, the monthly newsletter for the CCH Learning Center that provides insights on how to use the Learning Center to your full advantage and updates on new courses and features available to you. In each issue we highlight a course (or series of courses) on a timely topic, and let you know about new courses released in the Learning Center. We also inform you of new useful features, provide helpful tips on existing features, and help you use the CCH Learning Center to meet your professional development and CPE needs.

New Learning Center Courses

CCH is committed to keeping you up-to-date and knowledgeable on the latest issues that impact your firm or corporation. Several new or revised courses have been released to the Learning Center over the past two months.  See the new or updated titles released to the Learning Center here.

Course Spotlight

Cars: Expenses and Deductions: Automobile expenses are common business deductions. Yet, because of the complex nature of the Internal Revenue Code and ever-changing IRS regulations and rulings, taxpayers have to go to uncommon lengths to determine their maximum allowable deductions. Cars: Expenses and Deductions reviews the ins and outs of maximizing business deductions for cars. Learn about this course here.

This course will guide you in determining the tax consequences of the business use of a car. Five important areas are covered: employers; employees and self-employed individuals; fringe benefits; purchases, sales and trade-ins; and record keeping. Clear, detailed explanations and practical examples clarify how to best maximize automobile business deductions.

CCH courses covering home office and travel and entertainment deductions were also recently revised.

CPE Accreditation

CCH’s QAS status has been renewed through 2006! Unlike some of our competitors, all of our courses qualify for CPE credit under NASBA's Quality Assurance Service (QAS) program. Providers approved under the QAS program must meet the industry’s most rigorous standards. CCH’s standing as a QAS provider ensures that you will earn the CPE credit you need with the CCH Learning Center. Check out the Learning Center’s CPE Accreditation page for more information.

CCH recently added live audio conferences to its range of educational options. Each audio conference allows an unlimited number of users at your firm to get up-to-speed on a hot topic using nothing more than a telephone connection. Plus, participants can earn up to 2 CPE Credits. The next audio conference, scheduled for August 25 at 2:00 p.m. EST, provides an in-depth analysis of Circular 230, and insight on how to keep your practice safe during the uncertainty that will come with its changes.

The new Treasury Department Circular 230 will make big changes in how tax professionals approach providing advice to their clients or the companies they work for. CCH's audio conference, New Circular 230 Requirements: Compliance Tips and Insights will familiarize you with Circular 230 and its changes. Speakers Michael G.
