DECEMBER 2004

Dear CCH Learning Center Subscriber,

Welcome to the December issue of Focus on Learning, the monthly newsletter for the CCH Learning Center that provides insights on how to use the Learning Center to your full advantage and updates on new courses and features available to you. In each issue we highlight a course (or series of courses) on a timely topic, and let you know about new courses released in the Learning Center. We also inform you of new useful features, provide helpful tips on existing features, and help you use the CCH Learning Center to meet your professional development and CPE needs.

Course Spotlight

Two new courses covering tax legislation. 2004 was a significant year for tax legislation with the passage of two major tax acts—first the Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2004 and then the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004 shortly thereafter.  CCH was quick to respond with two courses covering the tax acts within six weeks after passage of the last act.

  • In Kess on 2004 Tax Legislation: Insights and Analysis, noted tax experts Sidney Kess and Barbara Weltman take a straightforward and practical look at the 2004 tax acts. They offer helpful guidance on the new laws, alert you to potential planning opportunities and pitfalls, and explain how you can capitalize on the law with your clients. The course includes links to authoritative documents, and to CCH’s Law Explanation and Analysis books for easy access to deeper explanations of the new laws. The course also contains numerous practice aids to turn the information presented into action, plus helpful reinforcement questions and answers.

  • Tax Legislation: Keeping Track of the New and Phased-In provides a broad overview of the two tax acts with a focus on how they have impacted various effective dates from previous acts. The course reviews the tax cuts that will occur as a result of individual extenders and business extenders under the Working Families Tax Relief Act of 2004. The course also reviews the major, high-profile provisions of the American Jobs Creation Act of 2004.
